Weekend preview: Women host Shaftesbury in final league game

Tuesday 23rd April 2024

Royal Wootton Bassett Town complete what has been a highly successful South West Regional Women's Football League Division One Eastern campaign on Sunday when they welcome Shaftesbury (Gerard Buxton Sports Ground AGP, 2pm kick off).

Having secured runners-up spot in the league, Bassett will be looking to end their season on a high - and complete a season double over their opponents who they beat 2-1 in Dorset back in January.

Adam Wood's side will have to be at their best to record a final three points of the campaign though.

Indeed, in their previous meeting Bassett had to come from behind to win, with maximum points eventually being secured courtesy of a late Maddy Elliott strike.

Admission on Sunday is free!

There may be a big game involving the Men's First Team to come on Tuesday - but the Women's side are equally deserving of your support.

So please do come along to cheer them on for one final time this season!

This weekend also sees the Sustain Stadium host cup finals for the Swindon and District League and Swindon Sunday League.

On Saturday, the action begins with the Swindon and District League's Don Rogers and George Thomas Plate final between Nalgo Sports Club and Bassett Bulldogs (10.30am kick off). Then in the afternoon it's the Challenge Cup showpiece between Poulton and Redhouse (2.30pm kick off).

On Sunday morning it's the final of the Swindon Sunday League's Janice Kuczynski Knockout Cup between Nalgo Rangers and FDC United (10.30am kick off).

Best of luck to all teams involved!
